Antique and Vintage Japanese Kimono
Spanning 250 years of Japanese history, the Alexander Collection includes more
than one thousand pieces of one-of-a kind, hand-made textiles comprised of: kimono, obi, theatrical costumes and kesa from the Edo, Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods. The vast collection is unmatched in its breadth and diversity, representing every type of weaving, dyeing, and decorative techniques in silk, cotton, hemp, ramie and wool.
The treasures of the Alexander Collection represent exceptional artistic achievement in the creation of wearable, decorative
and historic works of textile art.
A selection of our finest kimono was shared with the public for the first time in the Essence of Kimono exhibition at The Nippon Gallery in New York City, in July
and August, 2013. Following the success of that exhibit, The Katonah Museum of Art featured the kimono as part of their Lethal Beauty exhibit of Samurai Weapons and Armor from October 12th
through January 4th, 2015.
